Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has shown support for a young boy, Qudir Yusuf Alabi, who became popular after standing in front of Obi’s campaign convoy. Obi’s team recently visited Qudir at the Kirikiri Medium Prison in Lagos.
“His Excellency, Mr Peter Obi, through the Obidient Movement, visited Qudir Yusuf Alabi at the Kirikiri Medium Correctional Centre in Apapa, Lagos During the visit, he connected with Qudir’s mother and sister, standing in solidarity with the family and expressing unwavering support during this difficult time,” the post read in part.
The visit was led by Yunusa Tanko, the Interim National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide. He shared details of the visit on his 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account, mentioning that the team also met with Qudir’s mother and sister.
Earlier, Peter Obi had asked Nigerian lawyer Inibehe Effiong to look into Qudir’s case. The boy had been arrested by some people in his area while returning from work. They accused him of stealing and fighting, but some witnesses say these claims are not true.
Qudir had gone viral during the 2023 election campaign when he bravely stood in front of Obi’s convoy. This act touched many Nigerians, making him a symbol of hope and courage.
On April 8, 2025, Peter Obi reacted to Qudir’s situation on social media. He called on the police and government officials to follow the law and stop using their power unfairly against citizens.
