Our visit to Buhari is for Sallah and not coalition – Atiku clarifies

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has cleared up the rumors surrounding his recent visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari. Many people speculated that Atiku’s visit to Buhari was related to ongoing discussions about a political coalition. However, Atiku made it clear that the visit was purely for Sallah celebrations, not for any political talks.

Atiku, who was joined by other political leaders, visited Buhari in Kaduna on Friday, April 11. He addressed the rumors on his official X account, saying the visit was a personal one for the post-Sallah celebrations.

He mentioned that, as the Waziri of Adamawa, he had to attend the Sallah festivities in his home state first before visiting Buhari. Atiku described the time spent with Buhari as enjoyable, even mentioning that Buhari’s humor had him laughing so hard that it hurt.

The delegation included former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i, former Sokoto Governor and current Senator Aminu Tambuwal, former Imo Governor Achike Udenwa, former Benue Governor Gabriel Suswam, former Adamawa Governor Jubrilla Bindow, and former Minister of Communications Isa Pantami.

While El-Rufa’i now belongs to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Atiku and most of the others are still members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The visit also saw the group attending Friday prayers together in Kaduna. After the visit, Atiku spoke to journalists, emphasizing that the purpose of the visit was simply to offer Sallah greetings to Buhari, not for any political discussions.

When asked about talks among political parties, Atiku confirmed that discussions were happening, but clarified that they were unrelated to this visit. He explained that while there is a plan to form a strong opposition by bringing together major political parties, this had nothing to do with his visit to Buhari.

This visit sparked a lot of interest on social media, with many wondering about the political meaning behind it. However, Atiku’s statement has helped to settle these speculations, reinforcing that it was a simple, non-political visit to celebrate the festive season.
