Nigerian music star Fireboy DML, whose real name is Adedamola Adefolahan, has shared how getting tattoos has affected his relationship with his father.
Speaking on a recent episode of the 90s Baby Show, the 29-year-old singer said that his dad might never forgive him for getting inked. He admitted that he hides his tattoos by wearing a full jalabiya (a traditional long robe) whenever his dad visits, just to avoid hurting him.
Fireboy explained, “The one thing I’ve done that really breaks my dad’s heart is getting tattoos. I always cover up when he comes around. He doesn’t mind my piercings, but tattoos? He’ll never forgive me.”
The Peru hitmaker added that even if he wasn’t a musician, he would still have gotten tattoos. According to him, it’s a form of art and self-expression.
“I would have had tattoos even if I became a banker,” he said. “For me, it’s not just because I’m an artist. I love the art. Sometimes, I want to take off my shirt and still feel like I’m dressed. Tattoos give me presence even when I’m wearing something simple.”
