Lagos State Council Election Set For July 12 – LASIEC Announces

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has announced that local council elections in Lagos will take place on July 12, 2025. The announcement was made by LASIEC’s Head of Public Affairs, Tope Ojo, in a statement released on Friday.

The elections will be held across all 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). Voters will elect 57 council chairpersons and 376 councillors during this election. If any area requires a re-run, it will be conducted on July 19.

LASIEC has already started preparations by releasing the Notice of Election, which officially begins the election process. Political parties can now visit LASIEC’s headquarters to collect nomination forms for their candidates. A key meeting with all registered political parties is also scheduled for Tuesday.

Campaigns and rallies will begin on April 18 and continue until July 9. For parties submitting “substituted” or “only” candidates, nomination forms must be submitted between June 18 and June 25.

The LASIEC Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (rtd), assured that the election will be free, fair, and transparent. He also reminded political parties and candidates to follow the election timetable closely to ensure everything goes smoothly.
