Benue State has introduced a new, eco-friendly taxi service with the arrival of 20 electric and solar-powered cars. These vehicles, delivered to the Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC), will be used in Makurdi, Gboko, and Otukpo.
According to BIPC Managing Director, Raymond Asemakaha, this new service is called Green Wheels. It aims to lower transport costs, protect the environment, and provide jobs for young people in the state.
Asemakaha said the company plans to grow the fleet to 100 electric vehicles. The cars are designed to be safe and secure with GPS tracking, CCTV cameras, and advanced control systems. They are also zero-emission, meaning they do not pollute the environment. Each car can travel up to 500 kilometres on a single charge.
To support the new taxi service, BIPC will set up a plant for charging and assembling the vehicles at its CNG/Petrol Station near the company’s head office. Maintenance will also be handled at the same location.
For convenience, a mobile app is being developed so that passengers can book rides anytime, anywhere.
Asemakaha explained that this move is part of the government’s effort to help people save money on transport and improve their daily lives. He also described Green Wheels as a major step towards a cleaner, greener Benue State.
