Police rescue man accused of motorcycle theft from angry mob in Benue

A young man was rescued by police from an angry mob in Makurdi, Benue State, on Thursday, April 10, 2025. He was accused of trying to steal a motorcycle from an Okada rider.

The incident happened near Angus Fraser College, Owner Occupier Quarters Extension. According to eyewitnesses, the man and his two accomplices tried to steal the motorcycle, but the community members quickly noticed and chased them down.

While the other two thieves managed to escape with the stolen bike, the suspect fell off and was caught by the mob. They beat him severely and placed a tyre around his neck, preparing to set him on fire. Just in time, police officers arrived and saved him from the violent crowd.

This event highlights the dangers of mob justice and the quick actions of local police in preventing further harm.
