Europa League: Keep your trap shut’ – Nicol slams Onana over blunders after fight with Matic

Former Liverpool player Steve Nicol has slammed Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana after a disappointing performance against Lyon in the UEFA Europa League. The match ended in a 2-2 draw, and Onana was at fault for both of Lyon’s goals.

Before the game, Onana got into a war of words with former United and Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic. Onana told the press that Manchester United were “a way better team” than Lyon. Matic didn’t like the comment and called Onana “one of the worst keepers” in United’s history. Onana hit back on social media, reminding Matic that he had at least won trophies with the Red Devils.

But Onana’s performance did not match his bold words. His mistakes allowed Lyon to score twice, and fans, along with football experts, were not happy. Speaking on ESPN, Steve Nicol said Onana should have kept quiet before the match.

“In football, you should always keep your mouth shut because anything can happen,” Nicol said. “If you’re playing really well, maybe you can talk a little. But when you’re not at your best, it’s better to stay quiet. Now, he just made things worse.”

Nicol added that Matic is probably laughing now, while Onana must be regretting his words.
