The Energy Justice Forum (EJF), a group of energy rights activists, has advised the new CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, to avoid continuing the policies of the former CEO, Mele Kyari. The group described Kyari’s time in office as full of “dollar-chasing reforms” that lacked transparency.
In a statement released by Dr. Godknows Manager, the forum’s national president, the group called for a full audit of Kyari’s time as CEO. They want a detailed review of all contracts, crude swaps, and deals made during his leadership.
The EJF warned that Nigeria cannot create a strong energy future if decisions are made in secret or benefit only the elite. They said, “It would be a big mistake if the new leadership follows Kyari’s steps. His actions almost destroyed the economy, weakened local refining, and exposed Nigeria to currency problems.”
The group also praised the government for bringing back the naira-for-crude oil policy, saying it supports local refineries and helps ordinary Nigerians. They believe this policy shift is a good step for the country, not just for big businesses like Dangote Refinery.
Dr. Manager described this new direction as a patriotic move that can help refineries in Warri, Port Harcourt, and Kaduna succeed. He encouraged the new NNPCL board to work more with local investors and engineers to grow Nigeria’s refining capacity.
He concluded by saying, “This is a new beginning. The new NNPCL must operate with honesty and openness—not in secrecy.”
