Ibas appoints administrators for 23 Rivers LGs despite court order

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retired), who is currently the sole administrator of Rivers State, has approved the appointment of new administrators for all 23 local government areas in the state.

This announcement was made on Wednesday in an official statement by Professor Ibibia Worika, the Secretary to the State Government. The statement confirmed the approval but did not give the names of those chosen for the positions.

It also said that some boards of government agencies, commissions, and parastatals that were earlier suspended have now been reconstituted. All these appointments started on Monday, April 7, 2025.

This move came shortly after a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt gave an order stopping the administrator from making such appointments. The court order was issued by Justice Adam Muhammed on Tuesday in a case brought by the PILEX Centre for Civic Education Initiative, led by Courage Msirimovu.

Despite this court ruling, the administrator went ahead with the appointments. The situation has sparked discussions about legal boundaries and governance in the state.
