Former President Donald Trump has said he would be happy to send dangerous American-born criminals to a high-security prison in El Salvador. He made the comments while speaking to reporters on Air Force One.
Trump was responding to a proposal from El Salvador’s President, Nayib Bukele, who offered to take in US prisoners. Trump said the plan could save money and help deal with violent criminals.
“I’d love that,” Trump said. “If El Salvador can keep these dangerous people for less money than it costs us, I’m all for it—as long as it’s legal.”
Trump also mentioned that the US has some very dangerous criminals born and raised in the country. He added that he would consider sending them to El Salvador but would follow the law before making any final decisions.
This follows Trump recently thanking President Bukele for accepting deported criminals from the US.
