2027: Atiku, Peter Obi in talks to join SDP, we’ll retire Tinubu – Ex-presidential candidate

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has revealed that talks are ongoing with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi about possibly joining the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Adewale Adebayo, who once ran for president under the SDP, shared this during an interview on Channels TV. He said both Atiku and Obi’s teams are discussing with SDP leaders, and many other well-known politicians are also showing interest in joining the party.

“People are joining our party, and we are happy to welcome them,” Adebayo said. “Some of them are used to a different way of doing things, but we are guiding them to understand our party’s culture.”

He mentioned names like former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi as some of those in talks with the SDP.

Adebayo also said if these politicians truly join the SDP and follow the party’s values, they could provide a strong alternative for Nigerians and defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

If we stay united and true to our values, we can beat APC and send President Tinubu into retirement,” he added.
