Nollywood actress Jemima Osunde has shared her thoughts about a new trend in the Nigerian movie industry. She says that actors are now being pressured to become social media content creators before they can be cast in films.
In a chat with fellow actor Jammal Ibrahim, Osunde said it feels like actors are now required to dance or post regularly online just to get movie roles. She said, “It’s like if you don’t have a strong social media following, you won’t be picked. But that’s not the job of an actor. We are meant to act, not promote films online.”
Jammal Ibrahim agreed and pointed out that a good manager should help actors grow in their own way, not force them to copy others.
He said he doesn’t like to dance and wouldn’t want to take part in publicity stunts that don’t suit his personality. “I don’t want to look silly just to promote a film,” he added.
Both actors believe that while social media can help promote movies, it shouldn’t be a requirement for getting roles.
