Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, has responded to the latest allegations made by former Senator Elisha Abbo. In a statement released on Wednesday, Akpabio’s office dismissed Abbo’s claims as false and malicious.
Abbo had accused Akpabio of spreading misinformation and trying to shift blame for his removal from the Senate. Akpabio, through his spokesperson Rt. Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, called these accusations an attempt by Abbo to cover up his own failures.
Abbo, who represented Adamawa North Senatorial District before his election was overturned by the courts, had previously admitted in 2023 that his original allegations against Akpabio were wrong.
He acknowledged that his claims were based on incomplete information and had retracted them after a discussion with the Senate President. The court, after a thorough process, had ruled that Abbo was not validly elected as the Senator for Adamawa North, leading to his removal.
The Senate President’s office also addressed Abbo’s complaints about unpaid benefits, explaining that all financial matters go through proper channels.
If any of Abbo’s payment claims were not processed, it was due to them not meeting legal requirements, not due to any personal or political bias.
The statement also reminded the public of Abbo’s controversial past, including a 2019 incident in which he was caught on video assaulting a woman. As a result, Abbo was ordered to pay N50 million in damages.
Akpabio’s office urged Abbo to take responsibility for his legal and political troubles instead of trying to shift the blame and create media drama. The Senate President remains focused on his duties and will not be distracted by such claims.
