Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, visited Naka, the headquarters of Gwer-West Local Government, to see the damage caused by violent protests.
The protest happened on March 11, 2025, after the tragic killing of three young people in Tsambe-Mmbesev Ward. Angry protesters set fire to and looted several buildings, including the palace of the Ter Tyoshin/Nagi, HRH Daniel Abomtse, and the Local Government Secretariat. The house of Felix Atume, a former Registrar of COREN, was also vandalized.
On his way to Otukpo, Governor Alia stopped at the local government secretariat to assess the destruction. He strongly condemned the violent actions, saying that such responses only bring more harm to the community.
The governor urged the people of Gwer-West to remain peaceful while the government works to bring justice for the killings. He also assured residents that the state government would help rebuild the damaged properties and restore order in the area.
