Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has congratulated Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State on his victory at the election tribunal.
The tribunal ruled on April 2, 2025, upholding Okpebholo’s win in the September 2024 governorship election. It dismissed the petition filed by Asue Ighodalo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement signed by his senior special assistant, Lere Olayinka, Wike said the ruling confirmed that the people of Edo State freely chose Okpebholo as their leader.
He advised the governor to stay focused on governance and not be distracted by politicians trying to gain power through the “back door.”
Wike described the tribunal’s decision as a victory for Edo State and urged Okpebholo to work for the good of the people. He expressed confidence in the governor’s leadership and believed his administration would bring positive changes to the state.
Interestingly, Wike is a member of the PDP, while Okpebholo belongs to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
