Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that his performance this season has been “really poor.” City, who have dominated English football under Guardiola, are struggling to find their usual winning form.
Since arriving in 2016, Guardiola has led City to six Premier League titles. However, this season, they are currently in fifth place, a huge 22 points behind league leaders Liverpool.
City’s struggles have not been limited to the Premier League. They also crashed out of the Champions League before the last 16 after a 6-3 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid.
When asked about his performance, Guardiola did not hold back. “This season? Really poor,” he said. “My duty was to get out of the situation much better than I have done.”
City will face Bournemouth in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday, hoping to win the trophy for the eighth time. However, Guardiola made it clear that winning silverware or securing a European spot will not make up for the disappointment of their domestic season.
