The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied any political connection between its investigation of Ms. Aisha Achimugu and politicians like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

According to the EFCC, Achimugu is being investigated for alleged money laundering and criminal conspiracy.

The Commission declared her wanted after launching an investigation in 2022. She had previously obtained a court order preventing her arrest, but on February 19, 2025, a Federal High Court in Abuja canceled the order.

The court ruled that no court can stop law enforcement agencies like the EFCC from investigating crimes when there is enough evidence or suspicion.

Additionally, the court upheld an order for the temporary seizure of Achimugu’s suspected criminal assets, rejecting her appeal as baseless.

The EFCC emphasized that this case has nothing to do with any politician or political dealings. The agency assured the public that it remains neutral and committed to fighting financial crimes without any political influence.
