The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has criticized Governor Monday Okpebholo over the recent killing of seven people by a mob in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area. The party linked the violence to the newly reorganized vigilante group set up by the governor.
In a statement, PDP Caretaker Committee Chairman Anthony Aziegbemi claimed that security forces influenced the mob’s actions. He warned that people in the state are losing trust in the government and are taking the law into their own hands.
The PDP also pointed out the rising cases of killings, kidnappings, and sexual assaults across Edo, saying the state is becoming lawless. They argued that this situation reflects the governor’s failure to uphold the rule of law.
With over 100 deaths recorded recently, the PDP has urged President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Edo, just as was done in Rivers State when similar violence occurred.
The party accused Governor Okpebholo of neglecting security issues and instead focusing on undoing the work of the previous administration. They called for urgent action to stop the killings and restore peace in the state.
