Kenyan goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has been suspended from all football activities for 90 days after a video surfaced online showing him allegedly agreeing to influence a game’s outcome.
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced Matasi’s suspension on Thursday evening. This decision comes as part of an official investigation into the 37-year-old player, who currently plays for Kakamega Homeboyz in the Kenyan Premier League.
Matasi, who has represented Kenya 26 times, was part of the team that lost 4-1 to Cameroon in a World Cup qualifying match last October. Some of the goals conceded in that game have sparked concerns.
FKF released a statement confirming that they are working with FIFA, CAF, and other relevant bodies to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation. The federation emphasized its commitment to maintaining football’s integrity and will follow FIFA’s anti-match manipulation regulations.
They also encouraged anyone with credible information to report it confidentially via integrity@footballkenya.org. Further updates will be shared as the investigation progresses.
This case highlights the growing concern over match-fixing in football and the measures taken to protect the sport’s credibility.
