Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy, has criticized Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP). He described Obi as a failed politician who does not understand the meaning of democracy.
Bwala’s statement was a response to Obi’s recent comments at a birthday event for former Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha in Abuja. During the event, Obi claimed that Nigeria’s democracy had collapsed, arguing that the progress made since 1999 had been reversed.
Reacting to Obi’s remarks, Bwala took to his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday. He stated that Obi had no history of fighting for democracy, from his school days to his political career.
“It is funny how failed politicians are trying to redefine democracy. Peter Obi said democracy has collapsed. Does he even know what democracy means?” Bwala wrote.
He further claimed that while others were fighting for democracy, Obi was focused on business. Bwala also accused Obi of spreading hate speech instead of contributing to democratic development.
“His expertise lies in instigating hate speech and vitriol. Talk is cheap,” Bwala concluded.
Obi’s remarks and Bwala’s response have sparked debates about democracy and leadership in Nigeria.
