Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has denied accusations that he is connected to militant groups. He called the claims fake news meant to cause trouble in the state.
Fubara’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, released a statement saying that some people have been spreading false videos online. These videos claim that there were explosions at oil and gas facilities in Rivers State.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has no link to any militant group, does not contemplate any such association, and has no reason to encourage any criminal elements to undertake actions that threaten peace, security, or the economy,” the statement read.
However, communities in the affected areas have confirmed that these reports are not true. All important infrastructure in the state remains safe and operational.
Fubara assured the public that he is committed to maintaining peace in Rivers State. He believes that the state can only grow if there is stability. He also warned people against using the ongoing political crisis for their personal interests.
The governor urged everyone to focus on peace and development rather than spreading false information that could cause unnecessary panic.
