Akpabio clears air on $15,000 bribe to Senators to approve emergency rule in Rivers

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has dismissed claims that Senators were given $15,000 to support a state of emergency in Rivers State.

The rumors alleged that lawmakers received the money at Akpabio’s Maitama residence during Ramadan fasting. Reports claimed that each Senator got $5,000 on Tuesday and an additional $10,000 on Wednesday before the vote.

However, Akpabio’s Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, refuted these claims. He confirmed that Akpabio has hosted Ramadan fast-breaking events before, including last year. He questioned why this year’s event was linked to bribery.

Eyiboh said, “He has always hosted Ramadan fast-breaking events, so why is this one being turned into a rumor? People are making up the $5,000 and $10,000 story just to spread hate and misinformation.”
