Nigerian rapper and lawyer Folarin Falana, also known as Falz, has spoken against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to suspend Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The suspension came after the President declared a State of Emergency due to political tensions in the state.
According to DAILY POST, President Tinubu announced in a nationwide broadcast that Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the State House of Assembly had been suspended. He then appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas as the state’s Administrator for six months.
Falz, however, disagreed with the President’s action. In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, he argued that there is no law in Nigeria that allows a president to suspend a governor. He explained that a governor is elected by the people and can only be removed through impeachment.
He also questioned whether the situation in Rivers State was serious enough to justify a State of Emergency. He asked if there was a complete breakdown of law and order or if the state was at war.
Falz’s reaction has sparked discussions on whether the President’s decision is legal or politically motivated. Many Nigerians are now debating the constitutional limits of presidential power in such cases.
