The Rivers State Government has expressed shock over President Bola Tinubu’s decision to remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara while allowing Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to remain in office.
According to the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, this decision is unfair because Fubara has worked hard to maintain peace and good governance despite the political crisis in Rivers State.
Since taking office, Fubara has focused on protecting lives and property while ensuring the development of Rivers State. Even with ongoing political struggles, he has continued to carry out his duties, always putting the people first.
Johnson pointed out that after President Tinubu intervened to restore peace, the Rivers State Government followed the agreed terms. This included reinstating commissioners who had resigned. The government also acted quickly to obey a Supreme Court ruling, showing its commitment to the rule of law.
Despite Fubara’s efforts, lawmakers loyal to Wike, who is a former governor of Rivers State, have continued to create political tension. The state government is surprised that Fubara was removed while Wike, who is seen as a key figure in the crisis, remains in office.
“It is shocking that Mr. President sacked the governor and left his minister, who is the principal actor,” Johnson stated.
The Rivers State Government has urged residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding. It also assured the people that it will continue to work with relevant institutions to protect democracy and ensure the state’s progress.
“We have always been a resilient people, and we will face this situation with wisdom, patience, and unwavering faith in the democratic process,” Johnson added.
