Lawmakers in Nigeria’s House of Representatives had a heated argument over President Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State.
Before the plenary session began, two female lawmakers, Marie Ebikake (PDP, Bayelsa) and Blessing Amadi (PDP, Rivers), got into a shouting match over whether the decision was constitutional.
The tension in the House was high as some lawmakers banged tables, insisting that nothing would happen. Others appeared ready for a physical confrontation as the debate continued.
The emergency rule in Rivers State remains a controversial issue, with strong opinions from both sides of the argument.
