Ceasefire: Zelenskyy to speak with Trump after US president’s talks with Putin

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that he will speak with US President Donald Trump on Wednesday. The conversation will focus on Trump’s recent call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Zelenskyy shared this update during a press conference in Helsinki with Finnish President Alexander Stubb.

“Today, I will have contact with President Trump,” Zelenskyy said. “We will discuss the details of the next steps with him.”

However, he expressed doubts about Putin’s promise to stop attacking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Recent drone strikes have continued across the country, making Putin’s words seem unreliable.

One major challenge in future peace talks will be the issue of territorial control. Zelenskyy made it clear that Ukraine will never recognize Russian claims over occupied areas.

“For us, the red line is the recognition of the Ukrainian temporarily occupied territories as Russian. We will not go for it,” he stated.

Zelenskyy’s upcoming talk with Trump may provide more insight into the next steps in Ukraine’s fight for sovereignty.
