Abiodun warns Amotekun against violating human rights, hands over 13 vehicles

The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has urged officers of the State Security Network, also known as Amotekun, to carry out their duties with honesty, professionalism, and respect for human rights.

He warned them against abusing their power and emphasized that their role is to protect residents, not to harass or exploit them. The governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Toyin Taiwo, gave this warning during the commissioning of 13 operational vehicles at the Amotekun headquarters in Abeokuta.

Governor Abiodun stressed that the new vehicles symbolize the state’s dedication to ensuring safety. However, he noted that security operations rely more on discipline and intelligence than just equipment.

“The Amotekun Corps has played an important role in fighting crime, especially in intelligence gathering, community policing, and rapid response,” he said.

He reminded officers that their uniform represents public trust, and they must not misuse their authority. Instead, they should work closely with community leaders, remain alert, and report suspicious activities.

The governor reassured residents of his commitment to security and warned Amotekun officers against using their position for oppression or extortion. He emphasized that security is about protecting people, not taking advantage of them.

“As you wear the uniform, remember that it comes with great responsibility. Do not betray the trust the people have in you,” he stated.

The 13 new operational vehicles, he explained, are part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the state’s security system and ensure the protection of lives and property.

The Commandant of Amotekun, Brigadier Alade Adedigba (rtd), thanked the governor for his continuous support. He praised Abiodun for approving the recruitment of 500 additional officers and donating more vehicles to enhance their work.

With these new resources, Amotekun is expected to improve its operations and contribute further to the safety of Ogun State.
