APC council chairmanship aspirant shot and hacked to death in Lagos four years after he survived assassination attempt

Tragedy struck in the Ijede area of Ikorodu, Lagos, as unknown attackers killed Oluwatosin Onamade, a politician contesting for the APC chairmanship position in Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA). The shocking incident happened on Saturday, March 8, 2025.

According to his brother, Oluwafemi Onamade, the attackers had been following the deceased for some time. He described the killers as two men dressed in black, making it impossible to recognize them.

The assailants shot at Onamade in front of his house, but when the bullets failed to penetrate, they resorted to using machetes. They targeted his head and face, ensuring he did not survive.

Femi, who had survived a similar attack with his brother in the past, believes the killing was politically motivated. He stated that Onamade had a strong following and was a leading contender for the chairmanship seat.

This was not the first attack on Onamade. In 2021, political thugs targeted him, destroying his campaign materials and attacking his office. One of his staff members, Ifeanyi Godfrey, was brutally killed.

During the 2021 attack, Onamade managed to escape, but his brother was injured while resisting the assailants. He had previously shared how the police failed to respond when he called for help.

A close friend of the deceased, who preferred to stay anonymous, expressed sadness over the killing. “They have finally taken him out,” he said, urging authorities to take action.

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that an investigation is ongoing.

This tragic incident highlights the rising cases of political violence in Ijede and the need for better security measures to protect political aspirants.
