Delta: Enact stringent measures against community leaders, others abetting dealers of illicit drugs – Group to Oborevwori

A social rights group, the Initiative for Social Rights Concerns and Advancement (ISRCA), also known as “No Justice, No Peace,” has called on the Delta State Government to introduce strict measures against community leaders and security agencies suspected of supporting drug dealers.

The group believes that these individuals play a key role in allowing the illegal drug trade to thrive, leading to an increase in drug use and crime.

ISRCA’s National Coordinator, Comrade Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, stressed that community leaders and security officials must be held responsible for the growing drug trade in Delta State.

He pointed out that a dangerous drug called “Colorado” is widely sold, and its effects on young people are alarming. Many users exhibit strange behavior, and in extreme cases, drug abuse has led to violence, mental health issues, and even death.

The group emphasized that if leaders take a firm stand against drug sales, it will help reduce crime and protect young people from addiction.

The increasing rate of drug abuse in Delta State has led to numerous crimes. ISRCA highlighted a disturbing case from January 2025, when a 23-year-old man named Success allegedly killed his father in Sapele Local Government Area because his father refused to give him money for drugs.

According to the group, many criminals are linked to drug use. If drug dealers are arrested, they could provide valuable information to help security agencies track down other criminals.

ISRCA also accused some community leaders and security officials of protecting drug dealers in exchange for money. These illegal activities, they claim, make it difficult to stop drug trafficking and its harmful effects.

The group insists that without strict action against these corrupt officials, the fight against drug abuse in Delta State will not succeed.

The rights group urged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his administration to take decisive steps in combating drug abuse by holding those aiding drug dealers accountable. They believe that by addressing this issue at the community level, drug trafficking and its negative effects can be significantly reduced.
