Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was arrested on Friday night for assault.
According to records from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Worthy was charged with a third-degree felony. The charge is for blocking someone’s breathing or blood flow by covering their nose or putting pressure on their neck.
If convicted, he could face between two and ten years in prison or a fine of up to $10,000.
The Kansas City Chiefs released a brief statement, saying, “We are aware and gathering information.”
This is the second offseason in a row that a Chiefs player has had legal issues. Last year, wide receiver Rashee Rice was arrested for causing a multi-car crash while racing a Lamborghini in Dallas.
The situation is still developing, and more updates may follow.
