Military men invade Ikeja Electricity head office and allegedly assault workers (video)

The headquarters of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (Ikeja Electric) in Lagos was allegedly invaded by military officers on the morning of Thursday, March 6. The incident reportedly took place around 7:40 AM when armed men in military uniforms stormed the company’s office in Ikeja.

Reports indicate that the military personnel also forcefully entered another Ikeja Electric office located on Ago Palace Way, Okota, Isolo. Witnesses claim that the officers gathered staff members and other individuals found in the building and allegedly assaulted them.

Videos shared online showed the military officers carrying weapons and disrupting the company’s operations. Some employees were seen kneeling while others were reportedly beaten.

According to reports, the issue began after Ikeja Electric disconnected the power supply to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) logistics base in Ikeja on Wednesday, March 5. The base had been without electricity for two weeks due to unpaid debts amounting to millions of naira.

Sources revealed that there was an agreement for NAF to pay ₦60 million monthly to receive 10 to 12 hours of electricity daily. However, the prolonged blackout affected the base’s security, particularly its operational warehouse, which stores high-caliber weapons that require cooling systems to function properly.

Many employees of Ikeja Electric are now fearful for their safety, with some choosing not to return to work. Reports suggest that several workers who resumed duty on March 6 have been unreachable.

The offices of Ikeja Electric remain closed at the time of this report. Meanwhile, Nigerians, including media personality Rufai Oseni, have taken to social media to condemn the military’s actions.
