UCL: Lewis-Skelly should’ve been sent off against PSV – Ex- PGMOL chief, Hackett

Former Premier League referee Keith Hackett believes Arsenal’s young defender, Myles Lewis-Skelly, was lucky to avoid a red card in their Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven.

Lewis-Skelly received a yellow card in the 24th minute for a foul on Luuk de Jong. Just two minutes later, he made another late tackle on Richard Ledezma but surprisingly did not receive a second booking.

Hackett pointed out the inconsistency in officiating, stating that while the first yellow card was debatable, the second foul clearly deserved another booking, which would have resulted in a red card.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reacted quickly by substituting Lewis-Skelly in the 35th minute, replacing him with Riccardo Calafiori. The match ended in a dominant 7-1 victory for Arsenal.

Hackett praised Arteta’s decision to take Lewis-Skelly off, preventing Arsenal from being reduced to ten men. He also noted that the young defender has already received two red cards this season, though one of them, against Wolves, was later overturned.
