Bishop Sunday Ndukwo Onuoha of the Methodist Church Nigeria has raised concerns over the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.
The dispute between Governor Sim Fubara and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, could spread beyond the state and negatively impact Nigeria’s democracy.
Reacting to a recent Supreme Court ruling, Bishop Onuoha warned that the crisis might weaken good governance and cause ordinary people to suffer. He urged political leaders to avoid actions that could destabilize the country for their own personal interests.
“I advise all involved in the Rivers crisis to give peace a chance,” he said. “Why has this issue not been resolved through dialogue? Is this how democracy should work? My concern is what happens next.”
The cleric also encouraged the people of Rivers State to stand up for democracy and ensure peace prevails.
