Rio Ferdinand names four Man Utd players who doesn’t suit Amorim’s playing style

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has shared his thoughts on how some current players might struggle under manager Ruben Amorim.

He believes Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, and Rasmus Hojlund may not match the playing style Amorim wants at the club.

Ferdinand explained that Amorim’s teams, especially Sporting CP, are known for being athletic and dynamic. However, he thinks Man United’s current squad lacks the physicality needed to dominate opponents.

Speaking on TNT Sports after Man United’s 3-2 win over Ipswich Town in the Premier League, Ferdinand said, “Sporting were an athletic, dynamic team.

That was one of their biggest strengths. But this Man United team isn’t built that way. They have other qualities, but they don’t have the ability to physically overrun teams.”

When asked if Zirkzee fits Amorim’s style, Ferdinand responded, “No… De Ligt, Maguire, Hojlund—it’s not their game. Amorim will need players who can not only follow his tactics but also meet the physical demands of his style.”

The win against Ipswich Town moved Man United to 14th place in the Premier League. Their next match will be against Arsenal on March 9.
