Republicans Pass Trillion-Dollar Spending Bill in support of Trump’s 2025 Agenda

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a massive government spending bill on Tuesday, February 25, giving a big win to former President Donald Trump as he pushes his 2025 agenda.

The bill, which includes $4.5 trillion in tax cuts and major spending on immigration enforcement and the military, passed narrowly with a 217-215 vote. House Speaker Mike Johnson struggled to gain enough support and had to delay the vote before finally securing approval.

While all Democrats voted against the bill, only one Republican, Thomas Massie from Kentucky, also opposed it. He argued that the spending cuts in the bill were not enough. One Democrat was absent from the vote.

To help balance the tax cuts, the bill includes $2 trillion in spending reductions over the next ten years. It also seeks to extend Trump-era tax cuts that are set to expire at the end of the year. Some Republicans initially resisted the bill, calling for stronger financial control.

House leaders, including Speaker Johnson and Majority Leader Steve Scalise, worked hard to win support. Trump even called some undecided lawmakers personally, urging them to vote in favor. In the end, three Republicans—Tim Burchett, Victoria Spartz, and Warren Davidson—changed their stance and voted yes, helping the bill pass.

Now, the bill moves to the Senate, where it faces a tough challenge. Senators must negotiate a final version before sending it to Trump for approval.
