Russia vs Ukraine: Peace can’t amount to ‘surrender of Ukraine’ – Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron has made it clear that peace in Ukraine should not come at the cost of Ukraine’s surrender. He shared this view during a joint press conference with former U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday.

Macron stressed that Ukraine has fought hard for its independence and sovereignty, not just for itself but for global security. He warned against a world where stronger countries can take over weaker ones without consequences.

“This peace cannot mean the surrender of Ukraine,” Macron said. “Ukraine has fought for its independence and sovereignty, but also for our collective security. No one wants to live in a world where the strongest can break international borders anytime they want.”

His remarks come as Trump’s administration pushes for peace talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump’s approach to ending the war is different from his predecessor, Joe Biden.

He is promoting a resolution at the United Nations that calls for an end to fighting but does not mention Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

The war started three years ago when Russia invaded Ukraine. While world leaders are discussing ways to stop the conflict, Macron believes that any peace deal must respect Ukraine’s sovereignty.
