Nigerian footballer Abubakar Lawal has died in Uganda after falling from a shopping mall balcony in Kampala. Lawal, a 29-year-old striker, played for Vipers Sports Club, a top football team in Uganda.
According to reports, the incident happened early Monday when he fell from the third floor of Voicemall Shopping Arcade. He had been visiting a Tanzanian friend who lived in an apartment inside the mall.
The police are investigating the incident and reviewing CCTV footage to understand what happened. A friend told the police that she had left him alone shortly before the fall.
Vipers Sports Club expressed their grief in a statement, saying they were deeply saddened by the loss of their player. They sent condolences to his family, friends, and fans.
Lawal joined Vipers SC in July 2022 after playing for AS Kigali in Rwanda. His death has left the football community in shock. Authorities continue to investigate to determine the cause of this tragic event.
