Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, who represents Southern Kaduna, has expressed deep concern over the lack of science teachers in public schools within his constituency.
Speaking to journalists in Kaduna, the Senator pointed out that while many schools have science laboratories, they do not have enough teachers for subjects like physics, chemistry, and biology.
He also mentioned that some zonal education offices in the region have only two mathematics teachers, which is not enough to meet the demand.
He urged political leaders to work beyond party differences to find lasting solutions to educational challenges in the area. He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani for approving the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna State.
Addressing the issue of insecurity in Southern Kaduna, Senator Katung highlighted the growing problem of kidnapping for ransom, especially in Kauru Local Government Area. He assured residents that security agencies are working hard to stop the attacks.
The Senator expressed sadness that some kidnappings are planned with the help of close relatives or people familiar with the victims. He warned those involved to stop their criminal activities.
Senator Katung also dismissed claims that the attacks in Southern Kaduna are due to conflicts between farmers and herders. He clarified that the security issues in the area are caused by armed bandits targeting innocent people.
The shortage of science teachers and the growing insecurity in Southern Kaduna remain serious concerns, and urgent action is needed to improve education and ensure the safety of residents.
