EPL: Maresca confirms Chelsea’s first choice goalkeeper

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has made it clear that Filip Jorgensen will continue as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. Despite his mistake in their 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa, Jorgensen will keep his place in the starting lineup.

In the match against Villa, the Danish goalkeeper allowed a shot from Marco Asensio to slip under his body in the 89th minute, which contributed to Chelsea’s loss.

However, Maresca defended his decision, saying that one mistake does not mean a player should be dropped.

“If we change players every time they make a mistake, we would need to change many players every game,” Maresca said in a press conference before Chelsea’s upcoming match against Southampton.

Jorgensen joined Chelsea from Villarreal last summer in a deal worth nearly £20 million. He has played 16 games in all competitions and kept five clean sheets. He became Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper after Robert Sanchez struggled with errors.

As Chelsea prepares to face Southampton, Jorgensen remains Maresca’s trusted option in goal.
