Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has named Mohamed Salah as a player who deserves to win the 2025 Ballon d’Or.
Speaking after Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City, Sturridge praised Salah’s incredible consistency and impact. The Egyptian forward scored a goal and provided an assist in the match, helping his team secure a big win at the Etihad Stadium.
Salah has been in top form this season, with 30 goals and 21 assists in 38 club appearances. Sturridge, who played alongside Salah at Liverpool, believes it’s time for the forward to be seriously considered for football’s top individual prize.
“What Salah is doing for Liverpool every season is unbelievable,” Sturridge said on Sky Sports. “When he joined, no one expected him to score 20 or 25 goals a season. But he has been incredibly consistent.”
Sturridge also pointed out that Salah has never finished in the top three of the Ballon d’Or rankings, despite his outstanding performances.
Salah’s best Ballon d’Or ranking was in 2018 when he finished sixth. He later ranked fifth in 2019, seventh in 2021, fifth in 2022, and 11th in 2023. Surprisingly, he was not even nominated last year.
With his Liverpool contract set to expire this June, Salah continues to prove himself as one of the best players in the world. His performances this season make him a strong candidate for the 2025 Ballon d’Or.
