The Zamfara State House of Assembly has agreed to rewrite some bills that were earlier approved and sent to Governor Dauda Lawal for his signature.
The decision came after the governor sent a message highlighting concerns about the bills. He asked the Assembly to make necessary changes in line with the Nigerian Constitution.
The Speaker of the House, Hon. Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, presented the governor’s message to the lawmakers. He explained that Governor Lawal cited relevant sections of the law, requiring the bills to be redrafted.
The affected bills include:
- Law No. 14, 2024 – Establishment and functions of Zamfara State Schools Quality Assurance Authority.
- Law No. 16, 2024 – Establishment of Senior Secondary Schools Education Board.
- Law No. 13, 2022 – Amendment of Zamfara State Teachers Service Board law.
- Law No. 5, 2024 – Amendment of Zamfara Security Trust Fund law.
- Law No. 17, 2024 – Zamfara State Local Government Appropriation law.
The governor thanked the lawmakers and the people of Zamfara for their support of his government’s policies and programs.
Following the governor’s request, the Assembly assigned its standing committees to study the affected bills and make necessary adjustments. The next sitting of the House has been scheduled for March 3, 2025.
