A middle-aged driver lost his life in Edo State after a mast at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium collapsed on him during a heavy storm. The tragic incident happened on Thursday, February 20, while he was trying to save decorating materials for his boss.
According to reports, the mast fell due to strong winds that came before a downpour. The storm also disrupted a praise night event organized to mark Governor Monday Okpebholo’s first 100 days in office.
Eyewitnesses said the victim, who was the driver for the decorator, rushed to secure some materials when the mast fell and struck him. Sadly, he did not survive the impact. His body has been taken to the morgue, while the police are yet to release a statement on the incident.
‘’We were all gathered at the stadium waiting for the commencement of the praise night when the breeze began. Unfortunately, the mast fell and k!lled the man instantly. His head was shattered and it was a gory sight.
I gathered that he was a driver to the person who was at the stadium to decorate the venue. Most people had to leave the stadium after the rain subsided.”
