US: Senate to vote on final confirmation of Kash Patel as FBI director

The United States Senate, led by Republicans, will vote on Thursday to confirm Kash Patel as the new Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Patel has been one of President Donald Trump’s most debated nominees for the role. However, Senate Republicans have largely supported him, facing little resistance during his confirmation process.

During his confirmation hearing, Patel disagreed with Trump on pardoning those involved in the January 6 attack. He made it clear to the Senate Judiciary Committee that he would not support pardons for individuals who committed violent crimes.

“I have always opposed violence against law enforcement,” Patel said, referring specifically to the events of January 6. He added, “I do not support reducing the sentences of anyone who harmed law enforcement officers.”

The final Senate vote will determine whether Patel officially becomes the next FBI Director.
