The Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign from his role as the Minister of Petroleum. The group believes that a qualified expert should take over to improve the petroleum sector.
CHRICED made this call in a statement released by its Program Manager, Victor Emejuiwe, on Monday during the International Day of Social Justice.
The organization stressed that the petroleum industry is a crucial part of Nigeria’s economy and needs a leader with technical knowledge and deep understanding of the sector’s challenges.
According to CHRICED, appointing an expert will help ensure that the sector is run professionally and transparently.
Over the years, the petroleum industry has struggled with corruption, poor management, and inefficiency. A dedicated expert can bring fresh ideas and create a system where accountability is a top priority.
The group also emphasized the need for merit-based appointments in all sectors of governance. They believe this will improve leadership quality and encourage excellence and professionalism.
Additionally, CHRICED highlighted the importance of fair representation across different regions of Nigeria, ensuring inclusivity in governance.
By stepping down and appointing a capable leader, Tinubu’s government can boost public trust and make the petroleum sector work better for all Nigerians.
