Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham handed 2-game ban after red card was upheld

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has been suspended for two LaLiga matches after the Spanish football federation confirmed his red card from the 1-1 draw against Osasuna on February 15. As a result, he will miss upcoming games against Girona and Real Betis. Real Madrid is expected to appeal the decision.

Bellingham was sent off in the 39th minute when Madrid was leading 1-0. Referee José Luis Munuera Montero reported that the English midfielder insulted him by saying, “f–k you.” However, both Bellingham and Real Madrid disagreed, claiming video footage showed him saying, “I’m talking to you with respect,” followed by “f–k off.

After the match, Bellingham expressed his frustration, saying, “It’s clear the referee made a mistake. I remember what happened, and I’ve seen the video. The footage doesn’t match what was written in the report. I hope they check it again.”

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti also defended Bellingham, arguing that the referee misunderstood him. “I think the referee didn’t understand English well. [Bellingham] said ‘f–k off,’ not ‘f–k you.’ It’s not offensive. He shouldn’t have been sent off.”

Meanwhile, the federation is reviewing reports that a company linked to Munuera Montero has business connections with several football organizations and clubs. The referee has denied any wrongdoing.

Madrid will now focus on appealing the ban as they prepare for their next matches without one of their key players.
