Peru initiates investigation after singer Shakira’s medical record was leaked

Peruvian authorities have started an investigation after pop star Shakira’s medical records were shared on social media without permission.

The 48-year-old Colombian singer was treated at a clinic in Lima for stomach issues on Saturday, which led to her canceling a concert scheduled for Sunday, February 16. Shortly after, private details about her condition appeared online, causing public concern.

Officials say the clinic responsible could be fined up to $430,000 for violating patient privacy. Peru’s health watchdog is leading the investigation and has already spoken with clinic representatives. The process is expected to take around 25 days.

The Delgado Clinic, where Shakira received treatment, strongly condemned the leak, calling it a serious ethical violation. The clinic promised to take internal action against those responsible.

Despite the controversy, Shakira continued her world tour and performed in Lima on Monday night. She thanked her fans for their support, saying she appreciated their love and care.

Shakira’s tour, Las mujeres ya no lloran (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), started in Rio de Janeiro shortly after she won a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album. She dedicated her award to migrants in the U.S. facing deportation.

With over 90 million records sold worldwide, Shakira remains one of the most successful Latin artists in history.
