Nigeria is a great nation and we deserve to be treated with respect – Defence Chief again reacts to his visa denial

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has spoken out against the disrespectful treatment of Nigerians by foreign nations. He emphasized that Nigeria is a great country and should be treated with dignity on the global stage.

Musa made these remarks at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, February 19, following his recent visa denial by the Canadian Embassy.

He explained that he was supposed to attend an event abroad but was unable to travel due to the refusal of his visa, along with several other key officials.

Speaking on the matter, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, described the visa rejection as both painful and disrespectful. He strongly condemned the action, highlighting that such treatment is unacceptable.

Addressing speculations, Musa made it clear that the Nigerian Armed Forces were officially invited to the event. He stressed that all required processes were followed, involving top government officials like the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of State, and the National Security Adviser.

“Despite following due process, crucial members of our team were denied visas. We need to ask why this happened. Thankfully, the Federal Government is looking into this issue,” Musa stated.

Among those denied visas were essential personnel such as the team captain, medical doctor, and physiotherapist. Musa expressed his disappointment, questioning the reason behind the decision.

Despite the visa issue, Musa took a moment to applaud the Nigerian team at the Invictus Games. He praised their courage and determination, describing them as an inspiration to the nation.

“You have made Nigeria proud. Your strength and resilience prove that you are unconquered and unbroken,” he said

Musa also addressed concerns about the welfare of wounded military personnel. He reassured Nigerians that injured troops would not be neglected and emphasized the importance of providing them with the necessary support.

“As we celebrate our team’s achievements, we must also recognize the sacrifices of our service members. They deserve proper care and resources for their well-being and reintegration into civilian life,” he said.

Some critics questioned why wounded troops were taken to an international competition, but Musa defended the decision. He explained that other countries prioritize the well-being of their injured veterans, and Nigeria must do the same.

“People who question this do not understand the sacrifices these soldiers have made. They have given their limbs and, in some cases, their lives. We need to support them just as other nations do,” he concluded.

Musa’s remarks send a strong message that Nigeria deserves respect and fair treatment on the global stage.
