NBA Condemns Removal Of Benue Chief Judge, Justice Ikpambwese

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has strongly opposed the removal of Benue State Chief Judge, Justice Maurice Ikpambwese, calling it unconstitutional.

On Tuesday, the Benue State House of Assembly passed a resolution asking Governor Hyacinth Alia to remove Justice Ikpambwese over allegations of financial mismanagement.

In response, NBA President Afam Osigwe (SAN) issued a statement criticizing the decision. He emphasized that removing a Chief Judge must follow the legal process outlined in the Constitution. The NBA warned that the Judiciary must remain independent and free from political influence.

Osigwe argued that the House of Assembly does not have the authority to remove a Chief Judge. He urged the lawmakers to reverse their decision and follow due process. He also called on security agencies to protect Justice Ikpambwese’s rights.
