A gunpowder explosion at the Talata Mafara market in Zamfara State has caused the deaths of at least five people and left many others injured. The tragic incident happened on Tuesday at around 3:45 p.m. when the market was crowded with traders and shoppers.
According to an eyewitness, Muhammad Aliyu, the explosion started near a blacksmith’s shop. He said he had just left the area when he heard a loud blast, followed by a fire outbreak.
“I was very lucky to have walked away before it happened. The explosion caused a fire, and many people got hurt,” he shared.
Emergency responders found five bodies burned beyond recognition. More than 50 injured victims were rushed to the Talata Mafara General Hospital for treatment.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the cause of the explosion. Efforts to reach the Zamfara State Police Command for comments have been unsuccessful.
This tragic event has left the community in shock as families mourn their loved ones and pray for the injured to recover.
