Trump: Elon Musk-led DOGE terminates 568 wasteful contracts worth $2.1 billion

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), supported by President Donald Trump, has taken a bold step to reduce unnecessary spending in the U.S. government.

The agency announced on Saturday that it successfully canceled 586 wasteful contracts across 10 federal agencies, cutting down expenses by a total of $2.1 billion.

According to DOGE, these cancellations have already saved the government $445 million. One example was an $8.2 million contract from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for environmental compliance services, which was deemed unnecessary.

DOGE made the announcement on its official X account with a poetic message:

“Roses are red, violets are blue.
Today, DOGE and 10 agencies made 586 wasteful contracts bid adieu!
With a ceiling value of $2.1B and $445M in savings secured,
A perfect Valentine’s gift for all taxpayers—well-earned and deserved!”

The Trump administration has backed DOGE in its mission to cut costs and prevent fraud in federal spending. The agency has been reviewing contracts from several U.S. agencies, including the Treasury Department, Department of Defense, Department of Education, and USAID.

This move is part of a larger effort to make government spending more efficient and ensure taxpayers’ money is used wisely.
